Podcast SEO Tools: Keyword, Transcript and Ranking Tools Compared

By Kris Reid ·

The podcast SEO tools most real estate agents need are free: Google Search Console, Google Trends, YouTube Studio’s Trends tab and the transcripts Apple, Spotify and YouTube already generate. Paid keyword suites such as Semrush, at $139 a month for its SEO plan, and Ahrefs, from $29 a month for Starter, pay off only if you also publish website articles every week.

Most “podcast SEO tools” lists ranking today are years old, written by a tool vendor, or both. Several still recommend services that have since shut down. This one groups tools by the job they do, lists only tools we confirmed on their own websites, and gives prices exactly as each vendor listed them when checked in October 2026. Prices change often, so check before you buy.

What jobs does a podcast SEO tool actually do?

A podcast SEO tool does one of four jobs: finding the words people search, turning audio into text, tracking where the show appears, or checking the website pages that hold your episodes. Knowing which job you need stops you from paying for a suite when you needed one report.

Job The question it answers Free option Paid option (as listed October 2026)
Keyword research What do buyers and sellers type, and how do they phrase it? Google autocomplete, Google Trends, Search Console, Keyword Planner, YouTube Trends tab Keywords Everywhere from $84 a year; Semrush from $139 a month; Ahrefs from $29 a month
Transcripts What text can I put on the episode page? Automatic transcripts in Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube Descript Hobbyist $24 a month billed monthly
Ranking and chart tracking Where does my show or episode appear? Search Console, YouTube Studio analytics, free chart pages on Rephonic and Podchaser Rephonic from $99 a month
Website SEO Can Google find, read and index my episode pages? Search Console, Screaming Frog free version, free Rank Math or Yoast plugin Paid tiers of the same tools

The rest of this page goes job by job.

Which keyword research tools work for podcast topics?

The keyword research tools that work best for a local podcast are Google’s and YouTube’s own free tools, because they show how real people phrase questions. Our guide to podcast keyword research for real estate episodes walks through autocomplete, People Also Ask, Google Trends and Search Console step by step, so here we only add what those tools don’t cover.

Free tools beyond the basics

  • Google Keyword Planner. Google describes Keyword Planner as a free keyword tool for advertisers that suggests related keyword ideas and estimates costs. It sits inside a Google Ads account. Use it to compare two phrasings of an episode topic, not to chase big numbers.
  • YouTube Studio’s Trends tab. YouTube’s help page on exploring trends on YouTube says the tab shows top searches based on your audience over the last 28 days and “content gaps,” searches where viewers can’t find enough good results. YouTube notes some insights are limited to certain countries, languages and devices, and the tab may look different as YouTube rolls out an updated Studio from July 2026.
Tool Entry price as listed What you get at that price Worth it for an agent when
Keywords Everywhere Bronze: $84 billed annually (shown as $7 a month), 100,000 credits a year Volume, CPC, competition and 12-month trend data shown on Google and other sites; 1 credit = 1 keyword; credits expire after a year You want rough volumes while you browse, at the lowest cost
Semrush Free plan: 10 reports a day. SEO plan: $139 a month billed monthly, or $117.33 a month billed annually Keyword research, competitor analysis, position tracking and site audit for 5 websites and 500 tracked keywords You publish articles weekly and want rank tracking
Ahrefs Ahrefs Free for Ahrefs data on your own site. Starter: $29 a month. Lite: $129 a month Starter covers keyword and competitor research; Lite adds 5 projects and 750 tracked keywords You want backlink data on your own site and competitors

Neither Semrush nor Ahrefs is built for podcasts. They research web search. That is still the right tool for an agent, because the episode page on your website is what ranks in Google.

Which tools handle podcast transcripts?

The tools that handle podcast transcripts start with the ones you already have: Apple Podcasts and Spotify create transcripts automatically for many shows, and YouTube creates automatic captions. Those transcripts stay inside the apps, though, so you still need a clean text copy for your own episode page. Our article on whether podcast transcripts help SEO explains what Apple and Spotify do with them and how to clean one up.

For producing your own transcript, an editor that transcribes as you work saves a step. Descript, for example, lists a Free plan at $0 and a Hobbyist plan at $24 a month billed monthly ($16 a month billed annually), with 10 media hours a month. Many podcast hosts also include transcripts in their plans, so check yours before paying for a separate tool.

Can you track podcast rankings and chart positions?

You can track chart positions with free chart sites, and Google rankings with Search Console, but no tool we found reports your position in Apple Podcasts or Spotify search from those platforms’ own data. Charts and search are different things: a chart ranks the most popular shows in a category, while search decides who appears when someone types “first-time buyer Phoenix.”

  • Chart sites. Rephonic’s chart pages show top-ranking podcasts from Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube charts, and Podchaser’s charts cover Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Both are free to browse.
  • Rephonic’s paid plans start at $99 a month for the Light plan, with 100 searches a month and a 7-day free trial, per its pricing page. Its features lean toward finding shows to pitch or sponsor, which is guesting work rather than SEO for your own show.
  • Chartable is gone. Many older lists still recommend it for chart tracking and attribution, but chartable.com now redirects to Spotify’s Megaphone site (checked October 2026).

For a local real estate show, a chart position is rarely the number that matters. Your episode pages’ impressions and clicks in Search Console, and the “Traffic source: YouTube search” card in YouTube Studio, tell you whether people searching your market are finding you. For in-app search, check by hand: type your target phrases into the Apple Podcasts and Spotify apps once a month and note where your show appears. Our Apple Podcasts and Spotify SEO guide covers what those apps rank on.

Which website SEO tools matter for episode pages?

The website SEO tools that matter for episode pages are the ones that confirm Google can find, index and understand them, and the free versions are enough for an agent’s site.

  • Google Search Console is the one you can’t skip. Besides queries and clicks, its video indexing report shows how many pages Google indexed with a video and why others weren’t, which matters if your episode pages embed YouTube.
  • Screaming Frog SEO Spider crawls your site like a search engine and flags broken links, missing titles and duplicate pages. Its pricing page says the free version crawls up to 500 URLs, with a paid yearly licence for larger sites and advanced features. Most agent sites fit in the free limit.
  • An SEO plugin, if your site runs on WordPress. Rank Math and Yoast SEO both offer free versions that let you set each page’s title tag and meta description. Many agent website platforms that aren’t WordPress have these fields built in.

To measure what your podcast sends to your site, pair Search Console with GA4: our guides to measuring podcast traffic in GA4 and Search Console and tracking podcast guest appearances cover the setup.

What’s the minimum stack for a solo agent?

The minimum podcast SEO stack for a solo agent costs nothing: Search Console, Google Trends, YouTube Studio and the apps’ own transcripts. Add a paid tool only when you hit the same gap every week.

Stage Stack Cost as listed October 2026
Starting out Search Console, Google autocomplete and Trends, YouTube Studio Trends tab and reach report, Apple and Spotify automatic transcripts $0
Publishing every week Add Keywords Everywhere for rough volumes, or Ahrefs Free on your own site $84 a year, or $0
Running a full content program Add Semrush or Ahrefs for rank tracking and competitor research, plus a transcript editor From $29 to $139 a month, plus your editor

The tools only help if the routine around them happens every week; the podcast SEO guide for real estate agents sets out that routine, and how to title podcast episodes so people find them shows where your keyword research ends up.

Should you buy tools or hand the work off?

Buy tools if you will personally do the research, transcript editing and page building each week; hand the work off if you won’t. A tool stack doesn’t publish anything by itself, and a common failure on agent shows is not a missing tool but a week when nobody wrote the page.

If you’d rather skip the stack entirely, Icons’ done-for-you production for agents who would rather not run the SEO tools themselves includes guest booking, editing, publishing, promo clips, social promotion and SEO-optimized website articles in its ongoing plan.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free podcast SEO tool?

Google Search Console. It is free, it shows the searches your episode pages already appear for, and it reports which pages Google indexed with a video. No other free tool gives you data about your own show in Google.

Is there a tool that shows my podcast's rank in Apple Podcasts search?

We haven't found one that reports in-app search positions from Apple's own data. Chart sites such as Rephonic and Podchaser show chart rankings, which are a different thing. To check search, type your target phrases into the Apple Podcasts and Spotify apps on your phone and note where your show appears.

Do I need Semrush or Ahrefs for a podcast?

Not for the podcast itself. Those suites earn their cost when you also publish website articles every week and want keyword volumes, competitor data and rank tracking. For episode topics alone, free Google and YouTube tools cover most of what a local show needs.
