Dogs Love

If you're thinking of adopting a dog into your family, you should first ask, what do dogs like to ensure you’ll be giving them the best and happiest life possible.

Dogs truly deserve to be called “man's best friend”. All throughout history, they have always been there to provide companionship to us humans. They protect us when we’re in danger, and comfort us when we’re sad. However, as loyal as they are in keeping us happy, they too need some tender loving care from us. The best thing about bringing a dog into your home is that you can depend on each other for love and friendship.

You might already know that dogs love to play, eat, and be cuddled. What you may not know yet is that they have certain preferences that are very specific to them. Their experience of life is entirely their own, and figuring out what they love to do, eat, sniff, and play with will ensure that they make the most out of their new life with you.

Dogs are not as complicated as humans, and there are things that we can definitely offer them to keep them happy. You have a lot to learn together, but the journey will be one of the fondest memories you have in life. #1 A safe and comfortable home

First of all, you should provide them a safe and comfortable home. While you might think that some dogs, such as the German Shepherd and the Siberian Husky, are happy to live outside in dog houses, it could actually expose them to dangers like sharp gardening tools, poisonous snakes, pesticides, and extreme weather. The best solution is to provide them with their own space inside.

After all, if they are one of the family, shouldn’t they spend their days cozy and inside with the whole family? We should also take note that dogs have their own personalities and preferences. They are not all one and the same. That's why you need to take into consideration the different types of dog beds and rugs before getting them one.

For example, dogs who love to cuddle can feel cozy and secure in an enclosed dog bed. On the other hand, if you have a larger dog, a lounge-style dog bed will be a better option so they have space to sprawl out. You can also find soft rugs that dogs like to sleep on if they prefer to lay flat on the floor.

Some dogs, however, will love sleeping right with you in your bed!

#2 Exercise and other fun outdoor activities

You can get your best buddy lots of dog things, such as a chew toy, a comfortable dog bed, and a snuggly plush toy. However, they also need exercise, so take the time to do some fun outdoor activities with them.

Going to dog parks are great for urban dwellers, as it allows your dog to roam and play in an open and safe area. They will also get to play with other dogs, which is fabulous for their social needs. The best dog parks have a huge space for running and are securely fenced for the safety of both the dogs and by-passers.

Some other exercises and activities your dog will enjoy include:

  • Tagging along when you go biking

  • Camping

  • Swimming

  • Playing tug of war

  • Walking

But, as mentioned earlier, not all dogs are the same. Some dogs have high exercise needs to release stored energy, while others can just cuddle with you all day. So, you need to determine what activities fit your dog best after you get to know each other.

#3 Healthy and delicious treats

Dogs love treat time! They understand that treats are a delicious snack that we love to give them to make them happy. However, do make sure that the treats you give them are healthy and nutritious.

There are tons of great options coming onto the doggy food market as more and more humans desire to feed their furry companions well. Treats with ingredients that are organic and natural are a wholesome option, and you could even make some at home if you enjoy cooking! Healthy dog treats and food that are free from additives, preservatives, and unnecessary colorings are a wonderful way to show our pups some love.

#4 Socialization

Dogs are social creatures. Just like humans, dogs also need to socialize. Poorly socialized dogs can become fearful of new or unusual circumstances - they can become aggressive when they are startled or unsure. This can make visits to the veterinarian extra difficult or cause uncomfortable introductions to other dogs and animals.

Bringing them to dog parks and other outdoor outings will expose them to various stimuli,  and teach them to interact with other dogs and humans happily and safely. After all, don’t you want to spend as much time with your fur baby as possible?

#5 Quality time with you

Companionship would be the best answer to the question "what do dogs like the most?"

Dogs need lots of love and attention. What they want most in the world—more than toys and treats—is to be with you all the time. That's why they are always so happy and excited to see you come home from work.

They love it when you give them chest and belly rubs. They also like cuddling with you. So, even if they have their own bed, allowing them to sleep with you on your bed occasionally will make them the happiest pups on Earth.

It doesn't take much to make dogs happy. They just want to love and be loved. Giving them our undivided attention when we are with them is the ultimate expression of love. Of course, buying them stuff and giving them delicious and healthy dog treats are not too far down their list of things they like. But, if they can speak, they would tell you that the thing they love most is their favorite human. YOU!
