Ardor SEO’s Kris Reid Talks Better SEO Results on Jamie Turner’s the 60 Second Marketer
Known by many people as “the Coolest Guy in SEO”, Kris Reid is probably the best guy to ask when it comes to getting better search engine optimisation (SEO) results.
In this recent podcast episode of the 60 Second Marketer with Jamie Turner, Kris (who is also the founder of Ardor SEO) talks about strategies you might not know you could implement to get your website on top of the search engine results pages (SERPS) and eventually help your business grow.
Jamie Turner and the 60 Second Marketer
Chances are, you’ve seen Jamie Turner on television or YouTube, and maybe, you’ve come across a feature of him in Business Insider, The Wall Street Journal, or Forbes. You might have even read one of his books. Jamie is a force to be reckoned with in the world of marketing. He is a world-renowned author with several books under his belt, a popular keynote speaker, and a successful entrepreneur who teaches marketing to other business owners across the globe.
He has helped brands, like Kimberly-Clark, AT&T, and The Coca-Cola Company, reach business success with his marketing techniques.
The 60 Second Marketer is a marketing website founded by Jamie to offer tips, tricks, tools, and techniques about the science of marketing, as well as help businesses solve their most complex marketing problems.
Kris Reid and Ardor SEO
Kris Reid graduated with a degree in software engineering and went on to work for some of the biggest companies in the UK and the rest of Europe. However, the high paying job was not enough to quench his thirst for adventure and new challenges. So, Kris left his 9-to-5 job and went back to Australia to develop a mobile game. As it was nearing completion, he realised that he needed to find a way to get his game noticed, so he started studying SEO. That’s when Ardor SEO began, and now, the company is considered as one of the leading digital agencies in the world with a team of highly skilled remote professionals. Kris runs his business from Cambodia.
Kris shares his extensive SEO knowledge with other businesses to help them understand the industry and how it can be beneficial to them.
Getting Better SEO Results
As a marketer himself, Jamie knows that there are more than 200 different factors and metrics that Google uses to determine a website’s ranking on their SERPs. However, you don’t have to work on all those 200 ranking factors and metrics to get high rankings. In fact, you only need to get five or six things right, and that would already make a huge difference in your rankings on Google.
Being good friends with SEO expert Kris, Jamie handed over the reins to Kris in analysing specific data on the 60 Second Marketer website and in determining what could be done to get better SEO results for the site, which you could also do for your own website.
According to Kris, the goal is to “get your website in front of the very people who are actively searching for exactly what you do and help grow your business.”
Focus on keywords that people are searching
Kris starts with the 2,600 keywords that the 60 Second Marketer ranks for. According to him, he noticed that while Jamie’s site has a lot of keywords, it’s only generating 1,200 visits because most of these keywords are not on the front page of Google. That meant that there’s very little search volume and, thus, very low visits generated.
According to SEO Moz, sites on the first pages of Google usually get a 4% click-through rate. So, can you imagine how much more traffic you’ll get if you’re positioned on Google’s page one?
Optimise pages with the most relevant keywords
Kris takes Jamie’s website for example, which was down at number 43 on the fifth page of Google for the keyword “social media list”. We all know that no one really goes that deep when searching for information. Now, Kris suggests that if that page was optimised properly, it would have a huge potential because the keyword it is targeting has at least 3,600 searches a month.
While looking at the page, Kris noticed that it has pretty good content. However, the problem was on the title tag. While that post was relevant and useful, no one got to read it because it was not ranking well due to the absence of the primary keyword on the header tag or H1. So, instead of using “57 social media platforms every executive should like” that no one is searching for, he suggested putting the primary keyword “social media list” on the H1.
See how your page looks like on Google
A simple way to see what your page looks like on Google’s SERPs is to type on its search bar “site: URL”. On Jamie’s site, the title “social media platforms” doesn’t look bad at all. However, according to Kris, the page could do a lot better if that title tag is changed to “social media lists” that people are actually searching for.
Kris also points out that it’s not important to put your brand name on the title, implying that users will only find you if they would search for your brand name, which is not something users always do on search engines.
Include more relevant keywords in your content
Kris also suggests that secondary keywords should be included in the descriptions of your pages to make them more relevant for people who are searching for your primary keyword. He says that if you apply this technique for every page of your website, you will start to notice a huge difference in your rankings on Google. You can then worry about the more complex details later on.
The Bottom Line
Being an authority in SEO, Kris is one of the best people to learn things that will help your business get better rankings on Google, which in turn will help you get more traffic, generate more leads, and eventually, increase your sales.
